This Week @ Family Intel: Summary of “Home Sweet Homework”

Hmmmm!  It almost seems like Family Intel has a videocamera watching our house.  Last week’s summary was particularly applicable to our family.  And it seems this week’s summary just may be too.  Even though we’re homeschoolers and homework is not a huge problem around here (everything we do is home-work–hehe!), I’m pretty sure the studying strategies part will be helpful.

Remember that you must register at Family Intel to see the summaries.  As always, registration is FREE!  🙂

Minnesota Mama’s Must Haves: Review of WOOMBIE & Giveaway

I recently blogged here about how much I love Minnesota Mama’s Must Haves.  She has awesome reviews and giveaways.  Entering her giveaways is easy and you can “earn” multiple entries by following her guidelines.  I won’t be blogging about every giveaway she has because I’d be blogging about her every day.  LOL!  But, I do think today’s review and giveaway is worth mentioning.  I had never heard of the Woombie before I read about it in her blog newsletter, but it looks like a lifesaver for the parent with a newborn. I really wish I’d had Woombie for my newborns!

Here is a short excerpt from her review of Woombie:

“You can help ease your baby’s transition from the womb to the outside world with Woombie. It is a safe way to swaddle your baby and reduce discomfort. It follows SIDS guidelines and is designed to help your baby sleep better and safer.”

Please visit the MMMH blog to read more and enter the giveaway.  And don’t forget to scroll down to see more of her great reviews and giveaways!

Update from Homeschool Freebie of the Day

Earlier, I posted the FREEBIE resources for Monday through Thursday of this week.  I had to leave out Friday because it was a surprise. Well, the Friday surprise didn’t work out as planned (It’s actually a GREAT thing for them!) and so they have released a regular FREEBIE for Friday.  They’ve also made a special announcement about changes to the Friday format.  Below is a cut & paste from the email with all the necessary details.

Friday, Jan 8th:
WHAT SHALL WE DO NOW?
Five Hundred Games & Pastimes (PDF ebook)

A wonderful volume of delightful activities, projects, and
things to do compiled by Dorothy Canfield back in 1907,
especially for any child who’s felt bored and wondered
what to do next. In this book, you’ll discover the things
your great grandparents did for fun back when they were kids.
It is just great.

Some of our favorite sections are the sections on building
your own dollhouse furniture, things to make indoors & out,
writing & drawing games, how to enjoy the countryside,
rainy day games, and lots more.

This is a huge book, chock full of fascinating, fun stuff.
We suggest you keep a copy on your computer and refer to
it from time to time whenever your tribe is bored and wondering
“what shall WE do now?”

You can pick up your copy of this resource tomorrow at

http://www.homeschoolfreebieoftheday.com

This Week @ Homeschool Freebie of the Day

Homeschool Freebie of the Day, one of my favorite sources for free downloads, is back after taking a holiday break.  Their Heads Up email has hit my inbox, so here’s a cut & paste of what’s in store this week:

Monday, January 4th:
Supermom’s Simple Guide to Healthier Eating for Beginners and Beyond (PDF ebook)

“I know I should be eating healthier, but I don’t know where to begin!”
“A healthier diet would be nice, but my husband and kids will never go for it.”
“Healthy food doesn’t taste good.” Have you ever had any of these thoughts?
Many people do! Incorporating healthful habits is important for all of us,
but it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what to do, how to do it,
all the while wondering whether or not we’re going to like the taste.

In her long-anticipated first book, “Supermom” Erica Johns shares her
philosophy of taking realistic baby steps toward your healthy eating goals,
rather than burning yourself out on extreme health plans. A homeschooling
mother of six, she understands the unique challenges of time management
and healthy living on a modest budget.  A must for homeschool moms that
want to start out the new year with a practical plan for health and
weight loss that works!

Find out in this great half hour “Living Book for the Ears” audio program.

(PLUS… we’ll also have TWO MORE great “wintertime” audio stories
for you today!)

A full length HomeMaker’s Mentor lesson offering inspiration
that will warm you and yours! This lesson includes a photo tutorial on how to make
pinecone firestarters, ornamental gift match boxes, a checklist for your fireplace,
reminiscing about hearths in the homes of yesteryear through all four seasons,
and warming recipes for cups o’ fireside cheer! A great resource for those
chilly winter evenings!

Thursday, January 7th:

Courtesy of Copycat Books, today we have a neat little collection of
cursive writing printables. Included are: Pangrams (sentences containing all 26 letters
of the alphabet); the Pledge of Allegiance; the Preamble to the Constitution;
the books of the Bible; and a selection from Proverbs 31 on the Virtuous Woman.
Three versions of each printable is provided: traditional script, modern & italic.
A great tool to provide your students penmanship practice!

[Please note:  Friday’s freebie is a secret and only available to email subscribers.]

Blog Recommendation: Minnesota Mama’s Must Haves

Sarah, a stay-at-home mother of two young children including a newborn boy born last month, authors the blog Minnesota Mama’s Must Haves.  I wish I had known about her when my kids were little.  On the other hand, she probably wasn’t blogging then.  LOL!   At any rate, she does product reviews and that enables her to offer giveaways on her blog.  There are numerous ways to enter her giveaways.  For each giveaway, you must complete a mandatory entry.  This usually consists of visiting the company site and choosing your favorite product then telling her what that product is in a comment (for your first entry in the giveaway).  After the mandatory entry is completed, you can “earn” extra entries by entering her other giveaways and telling her which ones you entered in another comment; becoming a fan of her blog on facebook; blogging about the giveaway; putting her button on your blog; etc. For each thing you do, you just add a comment to the giveaway to tell her.  Each unique comment earns an entry in the giveaway. Winners are selected randomly using random.org.  Winners are posted on the blog and emailed privately.  Each winner has 48 hours to respond or another winner is chosen.

Currently, Sarah has several really cute items up for giveaway:  a soft rag doll of winner’s choosing from Adorable Kinders doll; a Baby Nest carrier from My Baby Nest; and an adorable eco-friendly tea set from Green Toys.

So, if you’re a bit confused, here’s how I worked it:  For each of the above giveaways, I visited the company’s site and commented about my favorite item at the giveaway; commented that I was a facebook fan of MMMH; commented that I am an email subscriber; and commented that I had entered the other two giveaways.  That earned me 5 entries in each giveaway.  After posting this, I will be able to go back and enter another comment for each giveaway, bringing my total to 6 entries each.  It’s easy, so give it a whirl!  :o)

Since my youngest is 6 and a boy, I don’t really need a doll, a baby carrier, or a tea set.  BUT, I have several little nieces and nephews.  Plus, I know several women who are expecting.  If I win, I know I will be able to bless someone else and that was worth the effort to repeatedly enter those giveaways.

It is also worth noting that Sarah’s reviews don’t always end in a giveaway, but I’ve found them to be a great way to learn about products that I’ve never heard of before.  For instance, she reviewed the FUMI purse hook, which is perfect for the germaphobe!
